Know Your Rights When It Comes To Breastfeeding (Infographic)

(Amanda MonteiroIt seems everyone has an opinion about breastfeeding. I’ve highlighted some controversy in the past regarding diet while pregnant and breastfeeding, which you can read more about here, but in addition to this research, it’s also important to take into account the rights you have as a breastfeeding mother.

Registered Nursing created the following infographic to educate women on their rights when it comes to nursing their little one. Too often, women are publicly shamed for choosing to breastfeed their child in public, which seems so backwards considering that this method isn’t being done to hurt or make people uncomfortable but to feed and nourish a baby.

Aside from helping women to choose the best method of public exposure when it comes to breastfeeding, the infographic also encourages women to learn their rights about doing so and describes how to respond to someone who doesn’t respect the practice.

In March 2016, the breastfeeding issue became even more convoluted when a report published in the journal Paediatrics advised paediatricians to stop referring to breastfeeding as something that is ‘natural,’ arguing it alienates mothers who cannot breastfeed. It also sought to undermine the growing public consensus that natural is always better. At the end of the day, however, it’s always important to do your own research to determine what is the best choice for your child. What works for you and your baby may not work for another, and that’s okay.

If you find you cannot breastfeed, you should opt for organic formula that does not contain the following:

  • Processed Refined Sugars (Corn Syrup Solids Maltodextrin, Brown Rice Syrup with detectable levels of arsenic)
  • Palm Oil
  • DHA and ARA extracted with hexane
  • Carrageenan
  • Synthetic Preservatives (Ascorbyl Palmitate and Beta-Carotene)
  • Synthetic Nutrients (Lutein, Lycopene, Nucleotides, Taurine, L-Carnitine, L-Methionine)
There are many other ways to optimize your baby’s health, like delaying cord cutting, which has been found to result in a higher score in social and fine motor skills. Other women also practice the style of LotusBirthing, which essentially involves letting the cord fall off naturally.

This just proves there is so much to learn when it comes to having a child and that this really can be a fun and beautiful process for you and your family.

Question -- What is the goal of this website? Why do we share different sources of information that sometimes conflicts or might even be considered disinformation?
Answer -- The primary goal of Stillness in the Storm is to help all people become better truth-seekers in a real-time boots-on-the-ground fashion. This is for the purpose of learning to think critically, discovering the truth from within—not just believing things blindly because it came from an "authority" or credible source. Instead of telling you what the truth is, we share information from many sources so that you can discern it for yourself. We focus on teaching you the tools to become your own authority on the truth, gaining self-mastery, sovereignty, and freedom in the process. We want each of you to become your own leaders and masters of personal discernment, and as such, all information should be vetted, analyzed and discerned at a personal level. We also encourage you to discuss your thoughts in the comments section of this site to engage in a group discernment process.
